There were news reports of two brothers celebrating the birthday of their mother. Several guests were invited for this special bash which included the de la crème of the city. The two brothers, their wives and children mingled with everyone present and made it a special occasion. Top models walked the ramp and the children too did some sashaying. The best of food and wine was served and it was all fun and frolic.
A photographer was invited all the way from abroad to shoot pictures of the family and the guests. The presence of this photographer surprised me and left me wondering whether India had any good photographers at all. A special film was made in the mother’s honour and was screened to the guests. The brothers in their speech emphasized the role of their mother and communicated to her that she was the most important person in their respective lives. And finally when the guests left, each one of them was presented with a silver box as a take away gift.
What was the take away gift for the mother? The greatest gift for the mother would have been seeing both her sons speak to each other which did not happen during the entire function. And she indeed was deprived of this precious gift.
So much for all the ostentation,
So much for a mother’s love!

Its all about the Ambani thingy huh.For some its always the "EGO" and "MONEY POWER" where they do not like to come down and show what family members mean. Human are so mean and they even cannot forgive one another and thaz what this world runs with bloodshed.
I pity the Mother for those lavish party done by her sons who doesn't care for her feelings.
Have to catch up on the Ambani saga. Like a soap opera, it goes on and on, with all the right twists;) You're right...The mom missed out on a true gift... and the whole ceremony sounded hollow even though obviously, a lot of money was spent...
Those brothers have money to make there mom happy, but that money made them not to talk to each other.
I feel sorry for the mother.
Very true!!! very sad for the mom!!!
Priya has said it best. For some, it will always be about the ego.

Well, somethings areleft unsaid. And mabnny more are left unnoticed. I am not sure as to what all happened there...behind those closed doors of the Ambani home!
Perhaps it was the mothers love that got them under one roof. Perhaps a first step.
Perhaps...
Of this thing i am sure : One doesnt know what goes on in the high life..!
As Kavi said, lets hope its the first step.
I've seen in so many instances that true love lies in the ability to forgive. Ego is the BIG stumbling block. Lets hope they put it away.

Thanks Priya. I agree with your comments and that is what all the scriptures of all religions say.
I agree Naperville Mom. Anythimg for a mother's love. Maturity needs to show.
Thanks Varunavi. Money many a time is the root cause.
Hey Ranu. Its sad and only they can change it.
Thanks Pearl. EGO should GO.
Kavi, well said. I hope they come together. This combination can change the world and be the biggest.
Its the fine difference between "showing their love" and "loving". Seems to me that the show is more important to these folks....every time. And I just wonder what makes them like that. A lifetime Obeisance to Godess Money ?
A simple lesson, but so difficult to teach!
P.S. Thanks for visiting my blog!
What a great post! And how true! I know, that as a mother of four, it would grieve me any of them refused to speak to one another. It is all about pride and ego, not loving. Thanks for stopping by my blog and I'll be returning to yours.
You have hit the nail on the head. As the old song says, "Money can't buy me love..."
The love of family and the ability to express that love and to forgive and to move on is immeasurable. Ego stops us from experiencing so much, and time flies by so quickly - what a tragedy.
There is a big difference between a House and a Home and this is it.
No amount of money can replace human attachment. No amount of money can bring complete happiness. Its the bonds we share with our near and dear ones that makes every penny worth its worth!
Unfortunately money has this weird power to make people believe that it is above all. It takes a lot of character to overpower that!
I feel bad for the mom :(
Thanks Ugich Konitari.I agree that money does not bring happiness. The race is meaningless.
Thanks Sriram. Let us pray for better times.
Thanks Sujatha. Thanks for coming over.
Thanks Sylvia for commenting on my post. Good insight.
Thanks Sucharita Sarkar. Indeed interesting.
Thanks for following DebraLSchubert. Ego is the root cause.
Thanks Giri good distinction has been brought out.
Thanks Priya. I am of also the thought that sometimes 'causing hurt' to near and dear ones can be critical for relationships.

Aah! I didn't know about the Ambani thing till I read the first comment... I was wondering why people would have models sashaying in a birthday party for a lil old lady?!!
It IS said that at such wonderful occasions like this, people can't bury the hatchet. But if they HAD made a show of being friendly to each other for their mother, that's all it would have been.. a show.
It's sad that for those in the upper echelons of society, to express love, flaunting of one's wealth and ego is so necessary. Hence a need to gift a billion dollar home to the wife & 5-star bash for a septuagenarian mother's birthday while keeping the family feud going on and strong.
Hope I am wrong and so is my cynicism...hope this is really the first step towards the brothers' reconcilliation!!!
I agree there is no point looking good in front of everyone. But a start would have helped. Thanks Roshni.
Trust atleast for the mother's sake, the olive branch is extended. Thanks SGD for coming over.
I agree with Priya, the false ego is the reason, despite all the spending they didn't make their mother happy, which should be the foremost.
