To Doctor with Love

He was our family doctor and a close relative. A friend, philosopher and guide to our family. He breathed his last today, very much to the regret of all those who knew him.
Yes, Dr. Anand , we will all miss you.

All of us met him just on the second of January this year – not even a week back. Gregarious by nature, smiling and the cynosure of all eyes, he endeared himself to one and all. A Doctorate of Medicine by profession , Dr. Anand died of aortic aneurysm – a swelling of the aorta. It all happened within a few hours and suddenly he is no more in our midst.

Any ailment in our family and Dr. Anand was promptly contacted. He cured many of his patients just by instilling confidence and through his love and affection. He was not one to initiate strong measures for ailments but rather would wait and watch before he prescribed any course of treatment. Probably in his own case, he was given no time to wait and watch. It is just unbelievable that our beloved Doctor is no more.

A family of doctors, seven of them that includes Dr. Anand, his late father, Dr. Anand’s wife and daughter, his two brothers and brother’s daughter. Heartfelt and sincere condolences to Dr. Anand’s family for this irreparable loss and may the Almighty give abundant strength to them to tide over this loss.

All of us in the family are at a loss of words and deeply shocked.
What else to say except - ' Death lays its icy hands on Kings.'

So sorry to hear this sad news. Your quote, 'Death lays its icy hands on Kings' really does say it all. (MLK, JFK, Ghandi, etc.)

Very sorry to hear this. We too have a wonderful lady doctor who we all go to, and she is like a parent to me, now that my parents are no more. My father was diagnosed with a large supra-renal aortic aneurysm in 2003, by accident, and we had learnt then that death due to that could be instantaneous, and how to take safeguards etc. He passed away in 2006, but due to old age. I did a lot of research on the aneurysms and put everything here: A layman' s guide to abdominal aortic aneurysms . In case you want to see....

Oh, I am so sorry to hear such very sad news! Wonderful doctors like Dr. Anand are rare and frequently hard to find. I can understand what a loss this is not only to his family but to his patients, like you and to his friends and colleagues! Your beautiful quote does indeed say it all. May his soul rest in peace!

Thanks Kavi. Dr. anand was a great human being and his family is shaken. I went for his funeral and the sea of mourners was to be seen to be believed.

Yes, it was indeed a sea of mourners this morning when Dr Anand's mortal remains left on the last journey. He had a lot of friends in nooranites, his patients, the medical community and chemburites who knew him for many years. I vividly remember his visits when my mother Rasatha was ailing. He would lovingly tell her to eat her curdrice and narthanga and not worry about anything. His jovial approach would work more magic than medicines. An unforgettable human being ans a humane doctor. Adieu! Dr Anand...............LEELA

Such noble souls are rare to find. In today’s society where people live as strangers in one family, it was impressive to see Dr.Anand who used to meet everyone with love and warmth.
May his soul rest in peace.

I agree with and echo everyone's sentiments about my cousin, Anand.

He took care of my mom in the later stages of her life before she attained eternal bliss about a couple of years ago.She always thought of him (along with his two brothers, Bharat & Bal) as the "other" three sons who gave her the support system that she needed to live without any worries.

Anand was a very compassionate and "practical" doctor who was not "prescription happy" to recommend a medication for every symptom. He let the body work its ways to cure itself. My mother was a testimonial to his "brand" of treatment. He was also a "great" father to his son, Ajay and daughter, Aparna.

It is indeed very sad that his life was snatched away at such an early age. I will miss him very much.

Thanks to N.S. Iyer and all the others for your kind and thoughtful words.

As I am reading the tributes offered to Anand I feel that no words can describe the Man that he was. Any one of us have any problem minor or major we never will go ahead with treatmeny suggested by any specialist .WE always used to call him up and ask him whether we can continue with the doctors advice.
Very recently one of my grand neice had her grand mother in law in the dhirubhai ambani hospital for some ailment. Thsy were getting desperate as she was neither getting better nor the doctors were giving any reassurance as to what the problem was and how long she will be hospirtalised and so on. Then they asked me whether I know of anyone who can give some sound advice and the first person I suggested was our dear Anand. and true to his nature he heard their predicatmeny and referred them to his friend doctor who is working in the same hospital and assured them reg the problem And the concerned people were all praises for Anand. Needless to say the I was very proud that he is a very close relative of mine IN fact he is my first cousin more than a real brother.
Fate has really snatched him away from us in a giffy and we are all shell shocked. It will take a long time for all of us to accept the fact he is no more.

Anand Periappa – we will miss you. I think every time we visit Chembur , it is going to be difficult to thwart that lump in our throats. Be it the Chembur temple , or 10th Road , or the clinic or Baby Periamma taking a walk in Diamond garden , somehow our short stay in Chembur had so many moments that brought us together. It will be difficult to wipe out memories of your jovial husky voice, your warmth and affection , and your simplistic medical treatments combined with jovial advices on a better lifestyle .This whole thing has been so sudden that we sometimes need to pinch ourselves to believe that you are indeed no more.
We have had the good fortune to interact with Dr.Anand for at best a couple of years - we were always far off in the south and now quite thankful for those golden years in Chembur. The impact of those few years has been enormous. Even back in Bangalore, we used to remember Periappa so often and so fondly, especially if we chose to take a small ride on our bike (which he did not approve of at all!) or we landed up with a doctor who prescribed sheets and sheets of medication and tests for amma( even then our fall back was always Bal Chittappa and Anand Periappa ).
Our hearts genuinely go out to the family, well wishers, friends and patients of his, who have known him all their life. Life will probably never be the same again.

Anand periappa's voice keeps reverberating inside of me, and oddly even though our interactions were mostly through the family functions over the years, I have always felt that if my appa were here, he would have laughed and joked with me just like periappa used to.

I wish I had some wise words to share on a loss such as this, but unfortunately I don't, all I have within me is confusion on why Gods law works this way ? Time does teach us to move on, the vacuum remains but slowly gets filled with all the beautiful memories shared. I would really like to believe that the circle of life continues, and our loved ones come back to touch our lives and hold our hands. Baby periamma,Ajay and Appu - please try and hold on to that thought.

I read this blog and its comments for the first time a few days after my father's demise at which point it was extremely difficult for me to express myself given the hard circumstances. They say "time is the best healer"...I do not know if I will ever be able to overcome the loss but today as i go back to reading the posts I can only express my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for describing my father and your interactions with him in such a beautiful manner. As a daughter, I cannot but thank God enough for giving me such a wonderful father and I know he's with me all the while, holding my hand and walking by my side through this journey of life...My regards to each one of you for bringing back beautiful and fond memories of my late father...
